Enrichment

At Harris Academy Greenwich Sixth Form, we pride ourselves on teaching students how to unlock their potential and achieve success. Rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted in 2022, we believe that sixth form education should be a balance between academic study and enrichment experiences to prepare students for life after post 16 education, whether that be the world of further education, apprenticeships or employment. Our sixth formers relish the vast array of opportunities open to them at Harris Academy Greenwich and gain wonderful new experiences that prepare them for life’s many challenges.

Career Ready

Career Ready has been embedded in our enrichment curriculum for over six years. Students apply for a place on the programme following a presentation detailing the full content of the Career Ready programme. Successful students are invited to attend a competitive interview which takes place in Canary Wharf. The panel consists of advisory board members who are all staff from large companies such as Citi and international law firm “Clifford Chance”. If successful, students attend a series of Masterclasses and workplace visits. Students are also allocated a mentor for two years to support them with their Career Ready journey but also to develop keys skills required for the working sector that the students have highlighted as a weakness. All students will have the opportunity to apply for a 4-6-week paid internship which starts during the end of the summer term and goes into the summer holidays.

Work Experience

Work Experience is a compulsory element of the Year 12 enrichment programme. Students are encouraged to network and seek a meaningful placement that is relevant to one of their subjects or their preferred field of work. Work Experience supports students by helping them to enhance existing skills and learn new ones. It is a positive learning experience which enables students to understand what employers are looking for from potential employees and importantly, it adds real value to their personal statement when completing their UCAS/Apprenticeship application or CVs for those students who are looking to venture straight into full-time employment.

Enrichment Options

We acknowledge that further education can be stressful/demanding, to ensure students maintain a balance between learning and wellbeing, students take part in enrichment once a week. Students choose an enrichment option that they must commit to for the entire half term and will get another opportunity to select another option the following half term. Enrichment options include:

  • Mindfulness
  • Debate Club
  • Exercise and Fitness
  • Current Affairs
  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
  • The Ivy House Award

Citizen Service

At Harris Academy Greenwich Sixth Form, we strongly believe in our students giving back to the local community. Our students dedicate a minimum of one study period per week, volunteering within the wider school community. Opportunities include mentoring, lesson support, tutoring, reading buddies and supporting whole school events. Also, our sixth form students attend Middle Park Primary School, supporting in classes and leading selected enrichment activities. Not only are our students giving back to the local community, but they’re also developing and gaining vital transferable skills.
