Harris Academies
All Academies in our Federation aim to transform the lives of the students they serve by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.

GeorgeGeorge McMillan Principal

Mr McMillan is the Principal of Harris Academy Greenwich. A very ‘hands on’ and highly visible leader, he is rarely to be found in his office and more often in classrooms, checking on standards of teaching, learning and behaviour. Mr McMillan is passionate that all students, regardless of ability or background, should be successful, demonstrate courage, behave with integrity and live happy lives. He believes in the power of a school to transform not just students’ lives but the community itself. A Senior Practitioner with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, he understands that the key to an outstanding school is excellent teaching, fantastic support and strong relationships with parents.

Our School Journey

We took over the leadership of the Academy in January 2011 and it has been an honour and a privilege to lead the school from Special Measures to Outstanding in this time, and joining the Harris Federation.  Harris Academy Greenwich is unrecognisable compared to the predecessor school and soon the old building will be knocked down too, officially closing one chapter of history and opening another.

Our results have nearly trebled in the last three years, making us the most improved school in the whole of England since GCSE records began.  We are the top non-selective school in Greenwich and are heavily over-subscribed, with a thriving, “Outstanding” Sixth Form.  This has been achieved without game playing with admissions, catchments or curriculum - just great teaching and a relentless focus on self-improvement.

The ethos of the school centres around our vision to develop successful students who demonstrate courage, behave with integrity and live happy lives.  Our motto of Pace, Purpose, Pride reflects an exciting, fast moving and student-centred school which combines a modern approach to education with traditional values of respect and good discipline.

We recruit staff who love to teach and who are passionate about leading all students to success in whatever shape or form that might take.  The culture for staff and students alike is one of high expectations for all, with high challenge but also high support. The atmosphere is always really positive and we pride ourselves on really getting to know our students by name, not just as a number or a statistic.

Whether you are interested in sending your child here, or are interested in working here, you can be assured that this is an excellent school.
