Harris Academies
All Academies in our Federation aim to transform the lives of the students they serve by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.


The Governing Body of Harris Academy Greenwich comprises governors from the sponsor organisation, the Harris Federation, from the staff (teaching and non-teaching) and from the parents. Governors bring a range of expertise to the school  - financial, business, legal, community and educational to name a selection, and we share a commitment to the continuing improvement of the school and to the Academy vision. The governors are extremely proud of the Academy’s achievements and we aim to support the students and staff.  We all believe in the profound importance of a good all-round education to young people and in the positive social impact that an Outstanding school can have.


Governors visit the school frequently.  We are all attached to the school House system or have pastoral responsibilities.  We attend school performances and celebrate success and we conduct learning walks and meetings with the teaching and non-teaching staff.  We always have in mind the serious side of our duties.  We hold the Principals to account and ask searching questions about all aspects of the Academy’s operation.


We support and challenge the Academy to ensure positive progress in exam results and also challenge issues with attendance, safeguarding and behaviour, and we insist on regular updates in between our meetings. 


We have a Finance and General Purposes committee and also constitute task forces on aspects of teaching and learning, which report back quickly and efficiently to the full Governing Body.   We take part in the recruitment process, are informed about temporary exclusions and hold disciplinary panels for students.  Sometimes, fortunately rarely, we are involved in permanent exclusion panels and we hold ultimate responsibility in the event of complaints against the operation of the Academy.
