Our New Year 7s
Even before our new Year 7s start with us, we work hard to ensure that the transition from primary to secondary is as smooth as possible.
The Principal and senior management team meet all students and their parents in one-to-one meetings in July where routines and expectations are made clear and questions answered. We also run a series of transition days and after school clubs for all Year 6 students in July.
From day one in September, we ensure that our new Year 7 students feel welcome, cared for and part of our community. School opens just for Year 7 on the first day of term so that staff can focus on helping them settle in. All Year 7s are given a peer ‘buddy’ or mentor to support them in their first year. Our House system ensures they have a sense of belonging and involvement in a wide range of inter-house events through which they also benefit from the positive influence of older children. All our students have a dedicated “Learning Guide” who will meet them once a week in groups of five or fewer for half an hour to set targets, discuss academic progress, raise levels of literacy and support them with any issues they might have.
This is an Academy where your child is not just a number or a statistic; we will know your child as an individual. Our highly visible and proactive senior management team, the fantastic pastoral team and committed teaching staff will do all they can for your child, helping them to fulfil their potential and become a well-rounded, active member of the school community.
