World Class Award
In November 2015, we were awarded with the prestigious title of being a ‘World Class School’. The World Class School Quality Mark is a universally recognised award and only given to schools who have been judged to have moved beyond outstanding. Harris Academy Greenwich was deemed a truly World Class School because the students here were able to confidently demonstrate World Class qualities. A selection of pupil’s from the Student Commission have been working tirelessly since July 2015 last year to provide enough evidence to the awarding body that the school is in fact World Class. Our students developed a compelling case for approval through detailed auditing of our school's capabilities, by submitting a video in support of their application, and participating in an assessment centre event, at which their performances were assessed against a rigorous framework.
The criteria our students were judged upon are given below.
World Class students;
- are highly literate scientifically, mathematically, technologically and culturally
- consistently out-performs students from similar contexts, and is committed to continually improving their performance
- are excellent learners, dedicated to life- long learning
- are compelling candidates in their field for higher education and/or employment, being globally aware , confident and prepared for life in an international environment.
The awards' uniqueness lies in the fact that the students are assessed with regard to whether they are World Class or not, rather than the school itself. The premise is, that if the school is truly World Class, then its students should be able to demonstrate this in whatever context they find themselves. It really is the calibre of the student which proves the calibre of the school. The school community is immensely proud of the students for working so hard to be officially and deservedly recognised as World Class.
