George McMillan

Assistant Director

Mr McMillan is Assistant Director for the East Quadrant of the Harris Federation, which includes Harris Chafford Hundred, Harris Falconwood, Harris Greenwich, Harris Rainham, Harris Riverside and Harris Ockendon.

Originally from Glasgow, he graduated from the University of Aberdeen with an MA (Hons) in English Literature before completing his PGCE at the University of Edinburgh. He began his career teaching English at a secondary school in Edinburgh serving one of the most disadvantaged communities in Scotland, where he worked for five years and, latterly, held a whole-school responsibility for promoting positive behaviour.

After moving to London in 2006, Mr McMillan joined the senior leadership team at Harris Chafford Hundred, where he played a key role in the school’s journey from Requires Improvement to Outstanding in every category. In 2011, he became Principal of Harris Greenwich, before being promoted to Executive Headteacher in 2019 and appointed Assistant Director in 2025.

Mr McMillan is also a lead facilitator for the National Institute of Teaching, training hundreds of senior leaders across the country each year. As a National Leader of Education, he mentors headteachers and supports schools in identifying priorities for improvement and securing lasting change.
