Kim Barclay

Assistant Principal (Behaviour and Culture)

As Assistant Principal with responsibility for Behaviour, Ms Barclay plays a central role in shaping a calm, safe and supportive school culture in which every student is able to thrive. Guided by a deep commitment to equality, fairness and justice, her work is rooted in the belief that high standards and strong relationships go hand in hand, and that all young people deserve to feel respected, valued and supported to succeed.

Beginning a career in education in Northern Ireland, Ms Barclay brought a strong pastoral foundation to London in 2015, joining Harris Academy Greenwich as a Pastoral Manager. From the outset, her work focused on understanding students as individuals and building trusting relationships with families and the wider community. Over time, they gained extensive experience working across year groups and key stages, as well as supporting students in alternative provision and looked-after children, developing a nuanced and compassionate approach to behaviour, inclusion and safeguarding.

Appointed to the senior leadership team in 2023, she has had a significant whole-school impact, particularly in strengthening behaviour systems and expectations. Known for her calm, rational and visible leadership style, she are highly present around the Academy, working closely with staff and students to ensure consistency, clarity and fairness in how behaviour is managed.

"A defining feature of this role is a determination to celebrate and amplify positive behaviour. By actively recognising the many students who consistently meet and exceed expectations, I help to reinforce a culture where positive conduct is the norm and success is shared. At the same time, robust systems are in place to support those who struggle, ensuring that behaviour is addressed proactively and that no student is left behind."

Above all, Ms Barclay is driven by the desire for students and staff to experience school as a place that is orderly, calm and safe, but also warm and supportive. Through clear structures, high expectations and strong relationships with families, her work contributes to an environment where learning can flourish and where young people are prepared not only for academic success, but for life beyond the classroom.
