Religious Studies and Citizenship

RE Generic

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9), students explore belief, identity, morality and society through the study of world religions, philosophical ideas and modern citizenship. In Year 7, they examine rights and responsibilities, core beliefs and practices across Abrahamic and Dharmic traditions, the influence of religious founders, and the role of charity and faith in modern Britain. In Year 8, learning deepens into moral decision-making, justice, environmental responsibility, life after death, spiritual expression through the arts and responsible financial choices. By Year 9, students engage with complex debates about democracy, non-religious worldviews, science and religion, happiness, suffering, peace and conflict. Across the key stage, students learn to debate respectfully, evaluate different perspectives and construct thoughtful arguments, leaving prepared to discuss challenging moral and social issues with confidence and maturity as they progress toward GCSE study.
