Psychology

Hagr sixth 2024 067

In Key Stage 5 (Years 12–13), Psychology invites students to explore the science of human behaviour, thought and emotion through powerful theories, research and real-world application. In Year 12, students investigate core approaches to psychology—including behavioural, cognitive, biological, psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives—while developing strong research skills, statistical analysis and ethical understanding. They explore social influence, memory, attachment and mental health, learning how psychological theory explains conformity, obedience, relationships and wellbeing.

In Year 13, learning deepens into forensic psychology, schizophrenia and the psychology of relationships, alongside full revision of earlier topics. Students evaluate explanations of criminal behaviour, understand diagnosis and treatment of mental illness, and examine how relationships form, change and break down. Throughout the course, students develop precise analytical writing, critical thinking and the ability to apply knowledge to unfamiliar situations. By the end of Year 13, they leave with secure understanding across all examination topics and the confidence to pursue university study and careers requiring insight, analysis and compassionate understanding of people.
