Guided Reading
In Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9), Morning Reading introduces students to powerful stories that explore identity, belonging and the wider world. In Year 7, texts such as Refugee Boy, Black and British, Nothing Ever Happens Here and Wonder help students understand migration, kindness and resilience while building vocabulary and empathy. In Year 8, works including The Hobbit, I Am Malala, The Breadwinner and Out of My Mind deepen thinking about courage, equality and personal voice across fiction and non-fiction. By Year 9, students engage with Noughts and Crosses, Northern Lights and Sophie’s World, exploring power, justice and philosophy through rich discussion and reflection. Across these years, students grow as confident readers, thoughtful citizens and compassionate individuals, prepared to engage critically with literature and the world around them.
