Physical Education

PE Generic

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9), all students experience a broad and active curriculum designed to build confidence, teamwork and lifelong enjoyment of sport. Across activities such as dance, rugby, netball, fitness, handball, badminton, cricket and athletics, students develop core techniques alongside qualities including resilience, communication, leadership and determination. Regular assessment of practical skills helps students refine performance and understand how training improves fitness and wellbeing. By the end of Year 9, students can apply fundamental skills across a range of sports, analyse their own performance and demonstrate positive sporting values such as respect, inclusivity and commitment.

In Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11), all students continue Core PE, developing practical competence in activities such as softball, volleyball, lacrosse, American football, dance and outdoor adventure while strengthening teamwork, discipline and leadership. Alongside this, some students choose accredited pathways. GCSE PE deepens scientific understanding of the body, exercise, nutrition, psychology and participation in sport, linking theory to performance and health. Cambridge National Sport Studies focuses on leadership, training, performance analysis and the influence of media in sport, preparing students to plan, deliver and evaluate sporting activity. Together, these routes enable students to grow as performers, leaders and informed participants in physical activity.

In Key Stage 5 (Years 12–13), students who continue into the Cambridge Technical in Sport develop advanced knowledge of body systems, performance, coaching, leadership and sports development. They explore how exercise affects the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, examine how sport is organised and promoted in the UK, and design, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions. Learning extends to injury prevention, rehabilitation and real-world leadership experiences, including work with younger pupils and community sport. By the end of Year 13, students leave with strong qualifications, practical expertise and clear pathways into university, apprenticeships and careers across sport, health and physical education.
